Frequently asked questions

What do I need to use ClearClaw?
A running OpenClaw gateway server accessible from your iPhone — either on your local network, over Tailscale, or on a public server. ClearClaw is the client; OpenClaw is the server. See openclaw.ai for server setup instructions.
What's the default port?
OpenClaw runs on port 18789 by default. ClearClaw will auto-suggest this when you enter an endpoint.
How do I connect from a physical iPhone (not a simulator)?
Use your Mac's local IP address (e.g. 192.168.1.x:18789) on the same Wi-Fi network, or connect over Tailscale for remote access. localhost won't work from a physical device.
Where are my tokens stored?
All authentication tokens are stored in the iOS keychain — encrypted by the OS, never transmitted to any server other than your own OpenClaw gateway.
Can I use ClearClaw with multiple servers?
Yes. ClearClaw supports multiple connection profiles. Add them from the Connections tab and switch between them instantly.
The connection keeps dropping. What should I check?
Check that your OpenClaw server is still running, your network is stable, and that no firewall is blocking port 18789. The diagnostics screen (shown during connection setup) will pinpoint exactly where the connection fails.
How do approvals work?
When your agent attempts a sensitive action (file deletion, code execution, API calls), ClearClaw intercepts the request before it runs and shows you an approval sheet. You see exactly what will happen and can approve or deny it.
Does ClearClaw collect any data?
No. ClearClaw has no analytics, no accounts, and no cloud services. It communicates only with your own server. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
